About Patti Stiles

Patti was educated by Keith Johnstone and played in his Canadian Loose Moose Theatre for many years. She was artistic director of Rapid Fire Theatre in Edmonton and, now that she moved to Australie, of Impro Melbourne. As first female to improvise 53 hours in a row she appeared in the Die Nasty soap a thon. The Canadian press called her ‘Queen of Improvisation.’

Workshop ‘Scenes that Matter’ (fully booked)
For very advanced / professional improvisors, Patti hosts a one day workshop that she descibes as follows:

This workshop explores stories grounded in humanity and reality that do not make it to the average impro stage. We live in a complex, complicated and extraordinary world. Humans do amazing heroic and horrific things. We have strong points of view on life and our values. We defend, love, fight, hate, suffer, thrive, collapse and achieve. Yet most stories we tell in improvisation are bland and without point of view. It’s almost as improvisers we are afraid to engage in the stories that reflect life around us. This workshop takes the participants into those stories. Please note: themes, language and subject material may be difficult for some people. This is not a light fluffy everyone jump around and laugh workshop, this can be intense and exhilarating. You will play characters you’ve never been asked to play before.

Workshop ‘Teach the Teacher’ (fully booked)
Patti will host a workshop as inspiration and refreshment for both junior and senior impro teachers. Games, exercises, tips and tricks from a very experienced and fun teacher. When I (Anja) took her class in Belgium a couple of years ago, she taught many exercises that were completely new to me. She works in the Johnstonian tradition, adding her own flavour to it. I learned a lot of stuff that I didn’t get from Keith himself.
